Powell Bookstore

This bookstore is the largest independently owned bookstore in the world. They operate two stores in Portland, Oregon and one in Beaverton. I used to spend many hours after work here. The rare book section is the most enjoyable of all. This main store location occupies an entire city block.

Portland’s homeless problem

Folks, Portland has a major homeless problem. Yes, its a situation that exists in most major cities across America and Canada, but somehow its more prominent and in-your-face in Portland than in other cities that I have been.

Homeless encampments all around the city, right on the streets. Not under some bridge that is invisible to the general public, but these are right in front of you wherever you walk.
